Behind Chrissy Canitano

What draws you to wedding photography?

I have been drawn to weddings and wedding photography for as long as I can remember. I was in a wedding as a bridesmaid for the first time when I was only 16, and I loved every second of it. Since then, I have been to countless weddings – as a bridesmaid, guest, or photographer. No matter how many weddings I get to be a part of, I always feel the same excitement for the bride and groom, and love the energy shared by all of those around them. Being able to capture the day for someone is an honour that I’ve valued since I was a teenager, and I love sharing the excitement and celebrating with my couples – it’s such a unique joy!

How do you want couples to feel when they revisit their photos?

I want them to feel the exact range of emotions that they felt that day. I’m always shooting on a wedding day – not just the big moments but all of the little glances and fractions of emotion in between. My favourite thing to hear from clients is “I didn’t even know that was happening!” because that means I’m making sure they get to re-experience their day not only through their own eyes, but through their guests as well!

Where do you find creative inspiration outside of weddings?

Movies! I love bringing a cinematic eye into the way that I shoot a wedding.

What are your favourite moments on a wedding day?

I bet a lot of people say when the groom sees the bride coming down the aisle… and yes of course I love that moment. But I also really love the groom’s mom at this moment. Often, when the groom will become emotional as the bride walks down the aisle, mom will turn to look at him and get emotional or just so happy too. I am a mom to a little boy (he’s 4) so this moment feels very meaningful to me like a glimpse into the future.

Is there a dream location you’d love to shoot a wedding in?

Sicily. Anywhere in Sicily!

I recently got to shoot a wedding in Umbria, Italy and I loved it so much. My heritage is Sicilian and it would be such a dream to shoot a wedding there. I feel like I’d feel so connected to the wedding and the couple
