Behind Emma Melin Studios

What draws you to wedding photography?

Believe it or not, I’m not much of a hopeless romantic. While I love love, I am much more interested in human interaction and connection. Over the years, my style and approach have shifted, becoming a more observational study on humans and their chosen community. Moments I used to shoot on autopilot have become cherished moments on a wedding day. I get invited into some of the most intimate days of people’s lives, and it’s something I don’t take for granted. It’s an incredible opportunity to connect with others and watch as the day unfolds in its own unique and vulnerable way.

How do you want couples to feel when they revisit their photos?

I hope that couples are reminded of the energy of their day. I hope their photos evoke not just how they felt, but are able to give them a glimpse into how their friends & loved ones experienced the day, too.

Where do you find creative inspiration outside of weddings?

I love people-watching! Living in New York means you are essentially forced to people-watch every day: while you are waiting for the train, grocery shopping, or having your morning coffee. It’s such an underrated way to find inspiration and see how people move and interact with the world around them!

What are your favorite moments on a wedding day?

It’s different for each wedding and with each couple! What is important to them becomes a standout moment for me. For example, some clients are really close with their grandparents, so getting ready photos or family photos can be super meaningful. As I get to know my clients before their big day, I sus out these opportunities and go in with particular knowledge and intentionality.

Is there a dream location you’d love to shoot a wedding in?

There are many countries and cities I would love to work in—too many to name. Anywhere with texture, landscape, and a rich sense of culture would be considered a dream location for me!
