Behind Rob Charles Photography
What draws you to wedding photography?
I didn’t grow up with a strong example of healthy, lasting love. Then I found wedding photography, and everything changed. Every wedding I photograph fills something in me that once felt missing. There is something incredibly powerful about being trusted with one of the most important days in someone’s life.
For me, this work goes far beyond taking photographs. I have the privilege of preserving a couple’s story and documenting the people, moments, and emotions that make it unique. That responsibility is something I never take lightly.
How do you want couples to feel when they revisit their photos?
I want couples to feel everything all over again. Not just see the memories, but truly experience them. I want them to remember the butterflies, the happy tears, and the feeling of being surrounded by the people they love most.
My goal is to create photographs that stand the test of time. Whether it’s five years or fifty years later, I want couples to look back and feel transported to that exact moment. That feeling is what inspires me every time I pick up my camera.
Where do you find creative inspiration outside of weddings?
Inspiration comes from all kinds of places. I’m a huge Marvel fan and a lifelong gamer, so visual storytelling has always been a big part of my life. Whether it’s a comic panel that perfectly captures emotion or a cinematic scene that leaves a lasting impression, I’m constantly inspired by stories that make people feel something.
That instinct for finding meaningful moments carries directly into my photography. I’m always looking for the emotion, connection, and story unfolding beneath the surface.
What are your favorite moments on a wedding day?
I’m drawn to the quiet moments that often go unnoticed. The deep breath before the ceremony begins. The look on a groom’s face when they see their partner for the first time. The quick glances exchanged across the room when no one else is paying attention.
Those moments are never planned, yet they often become the most meaningful. They are genuine, emotional, and completely unique to each couple. More often than not, those are the photographs that end up framed on the wall for years to come.
Is there a dream location you’d love to shoot a wedding in?
Japan during cherry blossom season has always been a dream destination for me. The combination of historic architecture, soft natural light, and the beauty of the sakura creates an atmosphere that feels almost magical.
What draws me most is the symbolism. Cherry blossoms are beautiful because they are fleeting, and that idea feels closely connected to wedding days. You only experience that moment once, which makes it even more meaningful. A wedding in that setting would feel timeless, romantic, and unforgettable.
