A short interview

What draws you to weddings?

Weddings are so personal. Being allowed to share in the experience is an incredible gift. It's the one day when everybody in the room is rooting for the same team. I love being the vendor guests never expected to matter, and then talk about the next morning.

How do you want couples to feel when they experience your work?

Relaxed. Taken care of. Delighted. I want every couple to feel so confident after our first conversations that they never even think about the restroom. Then, when they experience it for themselves, I want to blow their minds with every detail.

Where do you find creative inspiration outside of weddings?

Hospitality done at the highest level. Guest experience taken to the extreme. Reading Will Guidara's book "Unreasonable Hospitality" gave me the vocabulary and structure for ideas I've held close my entire life. I'm also drawn to anything that demands a high level of craft and attention to detail. A ship in a bottle. A complex tile mosaic. Delicate embroidery. Finely tailored menswear. There's so much to be inspired by if you're looking for it.

What are your favorite moments on a wedding day?

The awe of stepping into an exquisitely designed reception under a sailcloth tent. Overhearing guests notice the details I painstakingly selected. And then, from across the tent: "Oh my god, you have to check out the bathroom!"

Is there a dream location you'd love to work a wedding in?

I love supporting events at gorgeous private estates and homes, but one venue I've always felt drawn to is Storm King Art Center. Every sculpture there sits exactly where it should, and nothing feels accidental. I admire that level of craft, so a wedding there is the one I'd most want to be a small, well-made part of. Guest experience taken to the extreme, in a setting that already is.
